Hypnosis has certainly become more popular as mainstream society is becoming more conscious. In fact, the philosophies and practices of the East are becoming much more evident in the West, largely because they are having much success. Yes, those “way out there” techniques that used to make people raise their eyebrows are now talked about as commonplace self-help techniques that many men and women are trying. What is hypnosis? Hypnosis, or hypnotherapy, is an alternative type of therapy that aims at changing our unconscious thoughts. Are you aware that most of our everyday living is based upon our unconscious mind? It’s like an old CD program that runs continually and most of the time we aren’t aware that we are operating from that unconscious place. What’s great about hypnosis is that it is great at identifying what is really going on there (listening to the CD) and making the necessary changes (like replacing that CD) to get desired results. Hypnosis gets you to a state of consciousness where you are susceptible to suggestions that will benefit you. Using relaxation techniques to get to a deeply relaxed state, you can then listen to positive statements in order to promote healing, break habits, or change a certain mindset. How is hypnosis useful? Hypnosis is useful if you’ve got a habit you’d like to break, like smoking or drinking alcohol. It is also helpful if you are contending with negative emotions due to negative thoughts, such as depression or anxiety. The various types of hypnosis or hypnotherapy You can perform hypnosis on yourself or you can see a hypnotherapist. What’s great about self-hypnosis is that it is essentially free. Once you train yourself with the right training tools, you’re all set. Here are some of the different types of hypnotherapy you can consider: * Suggestion hypnotherapy This therapy involves making positive suggestions when you are in a very relaxed state of mind. This can help foster changes in subconscious beliefs, emotions, and even behaviors. This is oftentimes done when you do not have a clue as to why you are feeling a certain way or struggling with certain issues. In other words, there is no known root cause. * Analytical hypnotherapy  This type of hypnosis uses psychotherapy techniques to delve deep into the psyche to find the root causes of current issues. For example, let’s say you are having trouble getting to sleep. Analytical hypnotherapy is a technique that can help undercover the root of why you are not able to fall asleep. Perhaps it is because you are stressed about your relationship or teenage children. Or maybe you’re afraid to go to sleep due to nightmares you’ve been having, yet cannot remember them. This type of hypnosis may require several sessions in order to get to the root. Does hypnosis really work? It is important to approach hypnosis with an open mind, as skepticism may close you off to your desired goals. Your subconscious mind is much more powerful than you may think, so learning how to tap into it and reprogram it will benefit you greatly. If you’ve been dealing with the same issues for a while now, or if you notice a particular cycle that you cannot seem to break out of, give hypnosis a try. It may be just what you need in order to get to that subconscious level you need in order to experience the freedom you desire.
